A clean AutoCAD model can still produce a PDF with the wrong scale, clipped content or unreadable notes. Check the layout and the exported file as two separate deliverables. This checklist is for a simple 2D drawing plotted from a layout; command locations can differ by AutoCAD release and platform.<\/p>\n

1. Establish the units before choosing a scale<\/h2>\n

Measure a known object in model space and write down what one drawing unit represents. Do not assume that a familiar scale label fixes a unit mismatch. A model drawn in metres and a sheet measured in millimetres need that unit conversion accounted for when setting the viewport.<\/p>\n

Practice example:<\/strong> a 10 m line should occupy 100 mm on paper at 1:100. If the PDF measurement gives a different result, inspect the model units, viewport scale and output settings before changing the geometry. Use a PDF measurement tool calibrated to the sheet units, or measure a print made at actual size.<\/p>\n

2. Save a named page setup<\/h2>\n

Use PAGESETUP to select the output device, paper size, orientation and plotting settings. Give the setup a meaningful name, such as \u201cA3 landscape PDF,\u201d so you can reuse and review it. For a conventional layout plotted at paper size, use the layout plot area and a 1:1 plot scale; the viewport supplies the model-to-sheet scale. Confirm the printable area contains the title block and all required notes.<\/p>\n

3. Set and lock the viewport<\/h2>\n

Select the viewport border in paper space. Set the required scale, position the view and lock its display to protect against accidental scale changes. Autodesk documents both the Properties method and, in supported versions, a scale grip. Resizing the viewport border is different from changing the scale of the view inside it. After any adjustment, recheck the intended detail and scale.<\/p>\n

4. Inspect what will actually print<\/h2>\n
